In memory of those who lost their lives....
PSP 8 Custom Brushes Homework Title

Week3

This week we learned how to turn images into brushes; create a scene using the brushes; and to create brushes from line art drawings.

The first image, below, was created according to the lesson.

'Peaceful Mountains'

In the next image I played with overlaying the mountain brush using different shades of brown and then white. With each layered application I moved the mountains slightly up and to the left. The cabin I made after making the various brushes. I used the 'ground details' brush to create the snow though just using a large round brush with a low density would produce the same results.

'Foothills Snowfall'

The brushes made for the cabin as well as a larger view of the finished cabin are below. After assembling the cabin I then added a woodburning stove with a 'fire glow', a glow from an oil lamp and the interior log walls on the layers behind the cabin. The cabin is definitely primative! It doesn't even have a door knob. ;)

Cabin and Brushes

I'm beginning to feel like this is becoming addicting! For this scene I decided to add some horses. I used some line art drawings and removed the white. Then I added a layer beneath each horse and painted on the underlayer. I made this image last but wanted to incorporate more of what I'd learned in the others.

'Horse Play'

I got a little sidetracked on my way to creating brushes out of line art. I decided to experiment a bit with overlaying brushes using different colors. To create the mountains I started with a couple of different shades of brown and applied the mountains on separate layers. Then I added a top layer and used white and painted the mountains up and to the left plus lower over some of the brown mountain peaks. I used two layers for the background. I flood filled the first layer with a blue gradient. Then I made a selection of the lower third, promoted to a layer and filled that one with a light brown. After painting everything I realized that my mountains contained blue patches in the openings. I just painted the brown on the blue layer under each of the openings.

'Winter Wonderland'

Next I made a series of brushes from a line art drawing. I made all the angel parts as separate brushes in order to provide space between the parts as well as to have flexibility in color choices. I also created a brush ornament and added a tubed topper to it. I used this in my final image - to tie it back to the original landscape brushes.

Angel Brushes

For my final image I used one of the pine tree brushes in dark green. Then I added a layer below that one and applied the brush again only used black and made the size slightly larger to provide depth. Then I hung some angel ornaments. I intended to add the ornaments to the front tree in the 'Winter Wonderland' scene but was afraid they wouldn't be visible.

'Angel Tree'

I don't know if I covered all the basics here as I was having too much fun playing with the brushes and scenes. Thanks once again!
