The first exercise was to take a head from one photo and replace the one in the target photo. My target photo is of my friend Linda and her mother. |

I liked Linda's expression in this photo though the size and angle were not the same. |

In order to make the switch I had to resize Linda's head as well as rotate it to match the position on the original photo. |
| Next we learned how to mask out a background. This is a good way to replace a distracting background. The image on the right shows the layers for this exercise. | ![]() |

This is the result of the photo masking exercise. As shown in the original in the Layer palette, the background had a number of distractions. This background sets off the subject much better. |
| For the last masking image we created a vignette. I used a photo I took in China. For the masking I used a lighter shade of the color on the wall. I applied monochromatic noise and then added a Gaussian blur to it. | ![]() |

We also learned about the Distort>Liquify filter. I played with it but didn't keep any of the images. This was another good lesson. I do like working with layers in Elements. |
