PS Elements Introduction - B

Photo Fun: Switching a Head; Taking out a Background; Creating a Vignette - Selection, Elemask, Making a wheathatch paper backgound; Liquify for Good or Evil - using the Liquify filter

Target Photo
spacer image The first exercise was to take a head from one photo and replace the one in the target photo. My target photo is of my friend Linda and her mother.
Source Photo
spacer image I liked Linda's expression in this photo though the size and angle were not the same.
Switched Photo
spacer image In order to make the switch I had to resize Linda's head as well as rotate it to match the position on the original photo.

Next we learned how to mask out a background. This is a good way to replace a distracting background. The image on the right shows the layers for this exercise. spacer image

Masked Photo
spacer image This is the result of the photo masking exercise. As shown in the original in the Layer palette, the background had a number of distractions. This background sets off the subject much better.

For the last masking image we created a vignette. I used a photo I took in China. For the masking I used a lighter shade of the color on the wall. I applied monochromatic noise and then added a Gaussian blur to it. spacer image

We also learned about the Distort>Liquify filter. I played with it but didn't keep any of the images.

This was another good lesson. I do like working with layers in Elements.
