We worked on two photos for cloning practice. The first was the one in the lesson and the second one of our own photos. |

Before removing the tag from the ear I adjusted the photo's color by first removing the color cast and then used the levels adjustment. |
| The Clone tool used on a layer above the main photo. It really does a nice job! | ![]() |
|
Next I used one of my Pittsburgh photos to practice with the clone tool. |

While it's often good to have people in scenic photos to enhance perspective, I do not know the individual in this shot. He just walked into the frame as I was shooting. |
| First I used the clone tool to remove the boy. Then I used the clone tool on the water to vary the ripples in order to make the water appear more realistic. | ![]() |

For my first Dodging & Burning photo I had to use the one in the lesson - Janee! I'll show the second photo at the end as I also used the corrected version for another part of the lesson. |

The teeth in the photo are a bit yellow so the Dodge tool is used to remove some of the yellow while still maintaining a realistic look. |
| The Dodge tool does a great job in restoring the white on teeth. Between all the whitening toothpastes and the Dodge tool some dentists may find their profits decreasing! | ![]() |

Next we used Blending Modes to soften a portrait. I used one of Choctaw taken Christmas, 2003. |

While the original photo looks ok, it is a little dark and everything is rather crisp. |
| I used the Soften effect with the blurred layer to achieve a softer, lighter photo. I really like this effect. I like how it lightened and brought out the rich color of the armoire as well as lightened and softened the tree area. | ![]() |
|
We also used blend modes to create a special color effect on a photo. |

My original photo is another taken in Pittsburgh. In the background there's the new Heinz stadium on the right and the Science Center in the middle. In front of the Science Center is a submarine where visitors can tour the vessel. |
| The Gradient I used might give the viewer the impression that the submarine is leaking radioactive material. I just liked the colors! | ![]() |

I used a photo taken by a friend from my hometown in New Jersey for two of the adjustment effects. My friend got up early the morning the Queen Mary 2 was departing from New York and drove down to the NJ side of the Hudson River to see the departure. The sight must have been absolutely awesome! That ship is four New York city blocks long! |

This is the original photo I used with the Dodge and Burn tool to highlight the lights and then use the blend mode to lighten and soften the photo. |
| I used the Dodge tool, Highlight mode with a very small tip to brighten all of the lights in the photo. | ![]() |

I applied a Gaussian Blur of 5.0 and then the Screen Blending Mode to the Highlighted photo resulting in a photo which probably looked more like the early dawn light as the Queen Mary 2 set sail. |

There was a lot covered this week and it was all beneficial! The only thing that gave me trouble was the File Browser. I couldn't get that to open and when I was almost done I found it barely visible down at the bottom of my screen. Once I dragged it out of it's hiding place everything was as it should be! Thanks, Janee for a great introductory class. See you in the next one! |
