In the first part of the lesson we worked on enhancing a photo by using Hue/Saturation under Enhance>Adjust Color. This was fun! This is the original photo I used for my enhancement examples: |
For my first enhancement example I did the following: Enhance>Adjust Color>Hue/Saturation: H=+79 S=+29 L=-16. I liked the results. :o) |
For my second enhancement example I did the following: Enhance>Color Variations. I played with each of the options and was introduced to some neat effects. |
For the next part of the lesson we experimented with filters. The photo I used is shown below: |
For the first filter fun I did the following: Filter>Underpainting; Filter>Crosshatch; Filter>Articstic>Watercolorl Filter>Brush Strokes>Crosshatch. |
I did a few more things with the second filter image: Selection>Elipse>Inverse; Filter>Pixelate>Mosaic; Filter>Blur>Radial; Filter>Texture>Patchwork; Selection>Inverse; Filter>Sharpen>Unsharp Mask; Selection>Deselect. If I were to try this one again I'd feather the first selection by at least 5 pixels. |
In the last part of the lesson,"Photo Mangulation", we mangled a photo three times by applying various filters and other effects - whatever we wanted. It was a good way to explore more of the features and options available. The photo I used for this part of the assignment is below: |
Photo Mangle # 1: Enhance>Hue/Saturation S= +30; Lasso Tool>Freehand to select the brick areas of the photo; Filter>Blur>Gaussian = +15; Filter>Noise>Add Noise 12.5, Gaussian, Monochromatic; Filter>Blur>Motion 45 degrees; Select>Deselect; Elliptical Marquee, Feather 5px and selected the purple hydrangea; Filter>Artistic>Sponge; Select>Inverse; Filter>Stylize>Solarize; Select>Deselect. I'm not sure I recorded all the steps accurately, but I enjoyed trying out many of the effects here. |
Photo Mangle # 2: Enhance>Hue/Saturation S= +40; Filter>Render>Difference Clouds; Lasso Tool>Freehand to select all the brick areas of the photo; Filter>Artistic>Watercolor; Filter>Distort>Glass; Select>Inverse; Filter>Artistic>Fresco; Select>Deselect. Interestingly enough, I actually like this one. |
Photo Mangle # 3: Enhance>Hue/Saturation S= +35; Polygonal Lasso to select the upper brick background area; Filter>Brush Strokes>Ink Outline; Select>Deselect; Polygonal Lasso to select the leafy background area; Filter>Stylize>Glowing Edges; Select>Deselect; Elliptical Marquee Toolto to creat an oval about the size of the flower, feathered by 5 pixels; Filter>Artistic>Crosshatch; Move Tool, bounding box selected and decreased the size of the image, then moved the flower to the brick wall area on the left; Polygonal Lasso Tool to select the main flower area which was ctually on the background layer below; Filter>Texture>Craquelure. I think that was everything for this photo - except the proverbial kitchen sink. This is definitely not a work of art - truly mangled! |

Thanks, Janee, for another fun learning experience. |
