In memory of those who lost their lives....
Painter Brushes

Digital Watercolor; Liquid Ink; Gouache

After exploring the Water Color brush last week we started this week with the Digital Watercolor brushes. For my practice flower I painted a climatis. I have some in this color growing by my house.

Next we worked with Liquid Ink and created a fall leaf image. After creating the basic image we were to frame it using Layers>Dynamic Plugins>Tear. I had it working but when I decided to change the border color again the plugin in did not produce the desired effect. First the image turned black and then the plugin left splotches of color in the middle. I then added a frame, added a bevel, and then added a texture effect to the leaves.

I decided to play a bit more with the leaves. This time I added a slight bevel to the textured leaves as well as a different frame.

The last brush and variants we explored was the Gouache, which according to the dictionary, means "A method of painting with opaque watercolors mixed with a preparation of gum." This would explain why it paints like watercolor brushes but without diffusing. For the Gouach exercise we painted lemons. I used a couple that I had in my refrigerator as my models. I enjoyed painting with this brush.

Finally, I went back and revisited my watercolor scene from Week 2. I knew when I'd posted it that the cattails should be taller so I fixed that. I also added another fall tree and then added some more color to the sky. I still need a lot more practice with the Watercolor Brush!

This was a lot of fun! I'm glad you created this class for Painter Brushes, Karen. It's really nice to be able to explore each of them with your guidance. Thank you!
