The Auto-Painting Palette
|
|
This week we explored the Auto-Painting Palette and its use. For my first attempt at using the Underpainting palette I used the sample photo provided in the lesson. First I increased the Saturation and then applied the Smart Blur at 75%. I used the Hatch stroke with both Oil Pastels and Chalk, then blended with both the Grainy Blender and Just Add Water. I also used the New Cloner Tool to bring back some of the detail on the inner parts of the flowers as well as the bud, leaves and main branch. At the end I applied the Jagged Edge and then Image Luminance and Paper Texture. ![]() |

My second painting is based on a photo I shot of Choctaw when he was just a puppy. This is a reduced size of the original. ![]() |

I used the Saturation Style and Smart Blur at 100% for this photo. I again started with the Hatch stroke then switched to Small Dab. I used Digital Watercolor and Chalk first. Next I applied Intense Color in the Underpaing Palette. I then used the color picker to select colors to use on various parts of the painting with Chalk. Specifically, I painted more flowers and leaves, including leaves on the trees. I used both the Grainy and Just Add Water Blenders after using the new Cloner Tool to bring back some of the detail as well as the Soft Edge and Hard Edge Cloner Brushes in the Restoration Palette. At the end I applied the Rectangular Vignette Edge, Image Luminance and Paper Texture. ![]() |

My last painting is based on another photo I took in China, The Summer Palace, Beijing. The day was overcast and the early digital had only about .5 megapixels - not much! I used Noise Reduction in PSP as well as lightened the image. In this state it was well on it's way to being ready for Underpainting and Auto-Painting. ![]() |

I used the Saturation Style and Smart Blur at 75% for this photo. I used Short Dab strokes, varying the sizes. I used Fine Feathering Oils 10. Then I used the new Cloner Tool and Restoration Cloner brushes to restore some of the detail. Next I used the color picker to select various leaf colors and painted using Chalk. Finally, I used the Grainy blenders, Image Luminance and Paper Texture. ![]() |
