The Underpainting Palette

This week we painted photos using the Underpainting palette. I did four paintings so I could try some different things on each. Two paintings along with the originals are shown on each page. For my first attempt at using the Underpainting palette I used a photo I took of the Pittsburgh Incline. The photo was taken on an overcast day but it does show the roadway in the background winding down the mountain toward the bridge. Here is small version of the original photo: ![]() |

For this painting I used the Underpainting Saturate Style as well as Smart Blur. After finishing the painting I added Jagged Edges then I applied the Italian Watercolor paper effect. I used Acrylic brushes for the painting and the Grainy Blender. ![]() |

I used the Saturation Style and Smart Blur at 100% for this photo. This was also done with Acrylic brushes and the Grainy Blender. I like the painterly effect achieved by this technique. ![]() |
